Welcome home Information current as of: 3/29/2006
City of Green Lake Residents of Green Lake enjoy a diversity of activities in a small town atmosphere that fosters a sense of community.
At just over 1,000 year-round residents, Green Lake is an undiscovered gem, big enough to offer all of the amenities residents require, but small enough to offer that small-town feel.
The community has active local organizations and offers a modern municipal library, historical museum, and senior center. Green Lake serves as the center for County Government. Additionally there are three active churches: Catholic, Lutheran, and Federated (Baptist, Congregational and Methodist). There is also one community day care center.
Boutique and necessity shopping is available and essential services abound such as a beauty salon and barber, insurance institutions, hardware stores, automotive repair, excavating and landscaping services, building contractors, plumbers and two full service banks. Additionally, the City has a variety of fine dining and lodging establishments and a Resort and Conference Center.
The school system provides children with individualized attention. There are only about 15 students per class and students consistently achieve high scores on their college entrance exams.
Within 30 miles there are two University of Wisconsin campuses, one in Fond du Lac and one in Oshkosh. There are also three colleges in the area, Ripon College in Ripon, Marion College and Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac.
Medical facilities include hospitals in Berlin (nine miles) and Ripon (eight miles), and a local medical clinic that serves the area. The City has a well-equipped fire department and first responder unit, and a full time police force to provide for the safety of residents.
Green Lake is centrally located within an hour and half drive of many of Wisconsin's major cities including Madison, Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, and Stevens Point.
The City is situated on the north shore of Wisconsin's deepest inland lake, which is also one of its largest. The lake provides year-round recreational opportunities including fishing, sailing, swimming, diving, kayaking, skating, ice boating and lake cruises.
The area also has many other recreational activities readily available including three challenging golf courses, hiking trails, tennis courts, mini-golf, bicycle trails, horseback riding, hot-air balloon rides, public and private hunting grounds, an art gallery, and a fruit orchard.
Residents and visitors enjoy a variety of seasonal outdoor festivals and activities. The City park system includes boat launches, athletic fields, playgrounds, and swimming beaches.
Thrasher Opera House, a historically restored building, is a unique venue that brings a variety of quality programs including musicals, theatrical performances, opera, and dance to the City.
Green Lake’s central location, excellent municipal services, active community groups and unique and friendly small town atmosphere are just a few of the reasons people choose to live, work and play here.
